Equity Calculator
Estimate what your equity could pay if the company is sold, after the dilution you expect. Gross proceeds, before taxes and deal terms.
Your offer
Dilution is how much your ownership shrinks when the company issues new shares, usually in a funding round. You keep the same number of shares; your percentage falls.
We start at 20%. Raise it if you expect several rounds before an exit: in our equity-offer guide’s example, 1% at seed becomes 0.4–0.6% after three more rounds.

What this leaves out
The figure is your share of the sale price, not what reaches your account. Options and RSUs give the same figure here; they differ in exercise cost and tax. How we model equity

Worked examples from real outcomes
Real funding rounds and outcomes, with the FoundingHunt Benchmark's estimated range for a founding engineer at each stage. These companies are among the largest outcomes of recent years: they show the math, not what most startups return. Each row opens the calculator at the low end of its range.
Cursor
SpaceX bought Cursor for $60 billion in SpaceX stock in August 2026.
- Seed · Oct 20230.25–1% for a founding engineer who joined after the seed roundThe Series A to Series D rounds diluted it by about 32%. At the $60B SpaceX sale, that is $102M – $408M before tax and deal terms.
- Series A · Aug 20240.1–0.5% for a founding engineer who joined after the Series AThe Series B to Series D rounds diluted it by about 19%. At the $60B SpaceX sale, that is $48.6M – $243M before tax and deal terms.
- Series B · Jan 20250.05–0.2% for a founding engineer who joined after the Series BThe Series C and Series D rounds diluted it by about 16%. At the $60B SpaceX sale, that is $25.2M – $100.8M before tax and deal terms.
SpaceX paid in its own shares, not cash. Its filings say some Cursor common stock became SpaceX awards that vest only if the holder stays, and it values the awards tied to staying on at $23.4B, so not every holder owned their full share outright when the sale closed.

ElevenLabs
ElevenLabs has not been sold. In September 2026 it closed a $300 million share sale for staff that values it at $22 billion.
- Pre-seed · Jan 20230.5–2% for a founding engineer who joined after the pre-seed roundThe Series A to Series D rounds diluted it by about 33%. At the $22B share-sale price, that is $73.7M – $294.8M before tax and deal terms.
- Series A · Jun 20230.1–0.5% for a founding engineer who joined after the Series AThe Series B to Series D rounds diluted it by about 17%. At the $22B share-sale price, that is $18.3M – $91.3M before tax and deal terms.
A share sale buys only part of what people hold, and ElevenLabs has not said who could sell or how much. This is the whole stake priced at $22B, not what anyone was paid.

Figures as of October 2026. Dilution counts only the announced funding rounds, so option-pool top-ups and shares issued to buy other companies would lower every figure. All figures are gross: before tax, exercise cost, liquidation preferences and deal terms.
Questions about the estimate
What does the equity calculator estimate?
It estimates gross proceeds at a company exit by applying your dilution assumption to the grant percentage, then multiplying the resulting effective ownership by the exit valuation.
Does company stage change the calculation?
No. Company stage provides context and helps match relevant live jobs, but it does not change the gross-proceeds formula.
Does this show what my equity is worth today?
No. The results are exit scenarios, not a current valuation or guaranteed payout. Private-company equity may never become liquid.
How does dilution affect the estimate?
Dilution reduces your effective ownership. You control the dilution assumption so you can compare how different future funding outcomes affect estimated gross proceeds.
What costs and terms are excluded?
The estimate excludes vesting and unvested shares, strike price and exercise cost, taxes, liquidation preferences and other financing terms, and transaction-specific treatment of employee equity.
What happens to employee equity in an acquisition?
Treatment varies by grant agreement and transaction. Equity may convert to cash or stock, continue vesting, accelerate, or receive different treatment, so review the actual deal and grant terms.
