What does the equity calculator estimate?

It estimates gross proceeds at a company exit by applying your dilution assumption to the grant percentage, then multiplying the resulting effective ownership by the exit valuation.

Does company stage change the calculation?

No. Company stage provides context and helps match relevant live jobs, but it does not change the gross-proceeds formula.

Does this show what my equity is worth today?

No. The results are exit scenarios, not a current valuation or guaranteed payout. Private-company equity may never become liquid.

How does dilution affect the estimate?

Dilution reduces your effective ownership. You control the dilution assumption so you can compare how different future funding outcomes affect estimated gross proceeds.

What costs and terms are excluded?

The estimate excludes vesting and unvested shares, strike price and exercise cost, taxes, liquidation preferences and other financing terms, and transaction-specific treatment of employee equity.

What happens to employee equity in an acquisition?

Treatment varies by grant agreement and transaction. Equity may convert to cash or stock, continue vesting, accelerate, or receive different treatment, so review the actual deal and grant terms.
